The Beast

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to join a film project documenting a group of healers at a migrant shelter in Celaya, Mexico. The experience was profound and to be honest changed me on a core level. After the shoot and working with the footage, I knew I needed to dive even further into this truth and use my skills as a filmmaker to shed light on the reality of migration, beyond the statistics and rhetoric we often hear in the media.

Our senses and emotions are bombarded with numbers and political agendas, but what I witnessed was the raw, human side of the story. These are real people with dreams and families, risking everything for what we've come to know as the "American Dream." (Another part of which we will investigate in the film)

The hardships they face are staggering, and my goal with this film is to humanize their journey. They're not just statistics; they're our brothers and sisters, enduring unimaginable challenges in pursuit of a better life.

This is the story of migrants making the daunting 1500-mile journey from Guatemala to the U.S. border, with a focus on the infamous "La Bestia" or "The Beast" – a train carrying hundreds of thousands each year, where many face severe injuries or lose their lives.

Yet, this isn't just a tale of suffering. It's about hope and the beauty found in countless individuals who selflessly step up to ease the difficulties along the way. One such hero is Pastor Ignacio, whom you've glimpsed in the trailer. He, along with his family in Celaya, run Casa Abba, a sanctuary and shelter housing up to 500 migrants monthly.

In the film, we dive into Pastor Ignacio's life, exploring the challenges he faces to create a safe haven and restore the dignity of those orphaned from society. But Ignacio is just one of many heroes along the road. There are countless unsung champions, and I'm eager to speak with them and share their stories too.

Please support us on our journey to bring this film to life!

Thank you,

Kurt
